Geotechnical
Engineering
Nanook
Resources’ geotechnical engineering experience includes
site investigations; laboratory testing; engineering analysis
and design; and observation and field testing during construction.
The staff of Nanook Resources has provided geotechnical
engineering services for buildings, roads, parking areas,
water utilities, pipelines, and solid waste facilities.
These projects include both onshore and offshore sites.
Nanook
Resources personnel are experienced in using insitu techniques
ranging
from
borings and test pits to more sophisticated techniques,
such as cone-penetrometer and vane-shear testing. We
have supervised soil testing including moisture content,
Atterberg limits, particle size analysis, triaxial compression,
and
consolidation tests. We have performed quality assurance/quality
control reviews of these tests. We have analyzed and designed
building foundations that are supported on shallow and deep
foundations; analyzed slope stability; and provided pipeline
design recommendations. We have used finite-element computer
programs in analysis. We have also observed, conducted and
documented testing during construction.
Nanook
Resources personnel are experienced in providing geotechnical
engineering services related to the following types of projects:
structures, transportation, water and sewer utilities, oil
and gas pipelines, and landfills.

Geology
Nanook
Resources personnel have performed nearly all aspects of
geologic investigation. We are experienced in field techniques
such as mapping, drilling and sample logging, and geochemical
sampling. We have compiled and interpreted field and laboratory
data; prepared geologic maps, cross-sections, and terrain
unit maps; and produced geologic reports for mineral exploration
and infrastructure development. We have experience in performing
geologic services in remote and hostile climates. We have
designed geophysical investigations and used survey methods
including: seismic refraction techniques to evaluate the
depth, competence and ripability of rock; bathymetric mapping
and fathometer survey for a variety of waterfront projects;
and ground-penetrating radar to delineate subsurface stratigraphy.

Project
and Program Management
Nanook
Resources personnel have many years of practical experience
helping clients meet their schedule, budget, and quality
objectives by providing comprehensive project and program
management. Our staff has managed a wide variety of projects
and programs involving geotechnical engineering, hazardous
waste investigation and remediation, removal actions, and
infrastructure design and construction. Specifically, Mr.
Nidowicz has administered several multimillion-dollar, multiyear
contracts for federal clients including: U.S. Army Corps
of Engineers (Alaska and Seattle Districts), Federal Aviation
Administration, U.S. Postal Service, and the U.S. Coast
Guard and contracts for state, municipal, and private clients.
Ms. Wright has successfully managed task orders and projects
for a similar list of clients.

Technical
Support
- Project Coordination and Document Control
Nanook
Resources personnel have provided assistance to project
managers in coordinating and tracking large multidisciplinary
projects. Our services include:
- cost
schedule methods
- scheduling
- research
and compilation of technical information
- public
and agency involvement
- Technical
Writing and Editing
We
are experienced and talented in writing and editing documents
for the intended audience and presenting technical information
in a concise, understandable and meaningful manner. We
have managed, written and edited many technical and marketing
documents, such as:
- geotechnical
reports
- proposals
and cost estimates
- planning
documents (work plans, sampling and analysis plans,
health and safety plans)
- monitoring
and remedial investigation reports
- environmental
assessments (EAs) and environmental impact statements
(EISs)
- regulatory/permit
compliance monitoring reports
Hazardous
Waste Investigation
Nanook
Resources personnel have managed and conducted field activities
for numerous hazardous waste investigations, risk assessments,
and remediation projects. We have developed scopes of work,
sampling and analysis plans, work plans, and health and
safety plans; supervised drilling and well installation;
logged borings; performed well development; sampled soil,
sediment, surface water and groundwater in various hydrogeologic
settings with a variety of contaminants. We have compiled
and interpreted vast amounts of geological, hydrological
and chemical data related to large hazardous waste investigations,
worked with individual laboratories on quality control and
quality assurance issues, and trained personnel in field
and reporting techniques.

Environmental
Planning and Permitting
Nanook
Resources personnel have assisted in environmental planning
documents and permits for a wide variety of ongoing projects.
We have provided technical information for many types of
environmental planning documents and permits, such as:
- solid
waste disposal permits
- EAs
and EISs
- right-of-way
lease applications
- biological
resource studies
- reclamation
plans and permits
